Since 1999, Dr. Hobbs has been teaching Residents, Nurses, and Certified Surgical Technicians in the Upstate. Three times he has received Teacher of the Year award from the Residents. He has also served on the faculty at educational programs in the USA and multiple locations overseas.

Currently, Dr. Hobbs is Director of the Western Carolina Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic and Treasurer of the South Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Each year Dr. Hobbs spends 2-4 weeks performing volunteer surgery in other countries. These have included China, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Kenya, Ethiopia, Niger, and South Africa. Most of these surgeries have been cleft lip and palate repairs which are life transforming.  In many countries, without a cleft lip repair, the child is ostracized, some are left to die, some are considered demon possessed, and most are not able to have a job or get married.
